Description
This late 19th century Chinese architectural panel is hand-carved, notched together, and constructed of Chinese elm. The elaborately-carved center panel features a phoenix, surrounded by other auspicious symbols.
This item was originally the top panel of a Chinese wedding bed, which would have belonged to an affluent family where it came from in coastal southeastern China. It was imported into Taiwan in the early 90s, when Mainland Chinese sought to sell off their antiques/vintage items, and Taiwan was readily buying them up. I purchased this piece in 1991 from a retail antique store in Taipei and brought it back to the USA in 1993.See
