Description

Extraordinary Pair of French Louis XIV Period 17th Century Armchairs. Made of Richly Patinated Circassian Walnut with a deep, lustrous color. Arched Backs over elegant carved sweeping arms with beautiful turned uprights and stretchers incorporating “Barley twist” turning on the center stretchers. Made in Provence Circa 1670.

An exceptional pair of French Louis XIV period armchairs, circa late 1600s, masterfully crafted from richly patinated Circassian walnut. These stately fauteuils feature beautifully hand-carved scroll arms and bold turned legs with classic barley twist stretchers- hallmarks of the grandeur and symmetry that define the Louis XIV style.

Recently reupholstered in a deep navy velvet, the chairs are finished with antique brass nailhead trim, enhancing their sculptural lines while adding a sophisticated contrast to the aged walnut. The upholstery is both refined and comfortable, making these pieces as functional as they are visually striking.
The wood has acquired a deep, lustrous patina over centuries, showcasing the character and craftsmanship of the period. Perfect for a collector or designer seeking statement seating with time appeal.
