Description
Offering an EXTRA-LARGE hand painted Chinese porcelain vase with three dimensional pomegranate handles, signed on bottom with the traditional Late 19th Century red-iron mark. The Chinese re-issued this mark at later dates and this particular vase is Mid to Early Mid 20th Century.
This vase is hexagonal in shape and loaded with Chinese symbolism. There are peaches, grapes, and leaves hand painted on both the front and the back of the vase surrounded by other fruits and insects. The insects make this vase quite unique as there is an array of dragonflies, butterflies, grasshoppers, crickets and other flying insects. The beautiful black andmetallic gold detailing elegantly frames the vase at the top and bottom.
This particular vase design is called “Duke of Gloucester”, which is derived from the early European porcelain makers such as Royal Worcester, Williamsburg and later Mottahedeh.
