Description

Made with handwoven wool in Persia 1950-1960, this 4×8 vintage Shahsavan Kilim Runner is a particularly bright and sought-after work of an exciting new curation from Rug & Kilim’s collection of classic Kilims and Flat Weaves.

On the Design:

This beautiful kilim runner is a celebration of both artisanal craftsmanship and the bold artistic vision of weavers of the Shahsavan tribe. Characterized by its dynamic horizontal stripes enclosed within a bold border, the piece pulses with energy through a palette of saturated tones—blue, red, white, gray, pink, purple, black and beige/brown. The color arrangement alternates between thick, eye-catching bands and thinner, sharply contrasting lines, creating a sense of rhythm and movement that enlivens the entire composition. A tactile relic of nomadic life, it is durable, beautiful, and steeped in tradition. Whether placed in a contemporary space or a rustic interior, this kilim offers not only a striking visual accent but also a meaningful connection to a rich cultural legacy. This piece exemplifies the nomadic sophistication characteristic of Shahsevan tribal workshops from the Ardabil region, where Azerbaijani-speaking Turkic groups developed the distinctive geometric vocabulary that bridges Persian and Caucasian design traditions through centuries of cultural synthesis.
